Bishops of Ghana Appoint Dennis Appiah-Sasraku As National Catholic Laity Council Coordinator

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) has appointed the immediate past General Secretary of the Ghana National Catholic Youth Council (GHANCYC), Mr. Dennis Appiah-Sasraku, as the new National Coordinator of the National Catholic Laity Council (NCLC), Ghana.

He takes over from Mr. Francis Ebo Arthur.

He brings valuable experience, having served as General Secretary for GHANCYC from November 2018 to May 2025.

As National Coordinator for the Laity, he will be responsible for planning, managing, reporting and facilitating communication with Provincial and Diocesan laity councils, units and departments of the National Catholic Secretariat (NCS).

He will also assist in generating programmes and plans, coordinate the implementation of programmes and policies of the Council at all levels, keep all records of the Council and perform other duties assigned by the Council.

As GHANCYC General Secretary, he initiated and implemented some reforms including helping in revising the GHANCYC Constitution, developing a Catholic Youth Policy, developing a new reporting template focusing on the thematic areas of the New Integrated Catholic Youth Formation Programme (NICYFOP), organising the yearly Annual General Council Meetings (AGCM) and NEC Meetings of GHANCYC.

Mr. Appiah-Sasraku played key roles in organising the 75th Anniversary Celebration of IMCS Pax Romana Ghana Federation, and the 50th Anniversary and 5th Ghana Version of the World Youth Day for GHANCYC, developed a new Youth Leadership Training Manual and many more.

He also doubled as the IMCS Pax Romana National Coordinator within the same period.

He is currently the Laity Council Chairman of St. John the Baptist Parish, Odorkor-Tipper and a member of the Sacred Heart Confraternity, COSRA, CYO and an alumni member of IMCS Pax Romana. In his development, he has held various positions in the church, including Assistant PPC Secretary of St. John the Baptist Parish, Odorkor-Tipper, PYC Secretary and later Chairman in the same Parish, Vice President of Kaneshie Deanery League of Tarcisians, Secretary of IMCS Pax Romana (Ho Poly Local), and many others.

He has a background in Finance and Accounting, having worked as Finance and Credit Officer in the Automobile, Construction and Finance Industries for over 10 years before he was appointed General Secretary of GHANCYC in 2018.

He is a member of the Association of Certified Chartered Economists (ACCE), holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration (Banking and Finance) from the University of Ghana, an HND Accountancy Certificate from Ho Technical University and recently obtained a Certificate in Counselling from Ghana Christian University College.

Mr. Appiah-Sasraku is a devout Catholic and married with 3 children.

He begins his work with the newly elected executives of the NCLC, led by Sir. John Kofi Tandoh.

He will serve a fixed term of 3 years, which is renewable.
