For some time now, the Bole Senior High School Students Representative Council (SRC) has been inactive neglecting to plan and execute events like SRC Week, which was once a highlight of the school calendar.
The SRC week celebration therefore kicked off with a keep faith ceremony, led by the headmaster of the School, Mr. Abubakari Mohammed Salia on July 20, 2024.
On July 23, the students embarked on a peaceful float procession through the principal streets of Bole, accompanied by police escort, and subsequently returned to school without incident. Later that evening, a friendly football match was held between BOSEC and Bole Technical Institute, with the host School unfortunately suffering a narrow defeat, losing 2-1 for boys and the host School girls winning by a lone goal.
On July 24, the students hosted a team from the National Youth Authority who conducted an educational seminar on: The dangers of drug abuse and the opportunities of entrepreneurship. The session provided a platform for students to seek clarification on their concerns and doubts, fostering a clearer understanding of drug abuse and entrepreneurship.
The students on July 25 convened for a vibrant cultural display, showcasing the rich diversity of the School community. Almost all the tribal groups within the school proudly presented their traditional dances, highlighting the wealth of cultural heritage represented.
These groups were: Vugla – Safaliba, Gonja, Berifo, Dagaaba, Kamara, Upper East Union, Southern Union, konkomba and Dagoba. All these groups performed marvelously well but four groups were short listed for the grand durbar as the climax.
July 26, 2024 marked a heartwarming encounter with the old students, as the Master of Ceremony (MC), Mr. Bakari Soale skillfully set the tone by calling the students to order and graciously inviting them to give the esteemed alumni the attention they deserved.
The President of the Alumni Association, Mr. Issah Zakariah was supported by an executive board and members, some of whom are currently employed by the School.
The alumni advised the students to take their studies seriously and work collectively, accepting guidance from their teachers and refraining from viewing them as adversaries.
The alumni also commended the students for maintaining a peaceful school environment, avoiding riots and disturbances, and urged them to stay focused on their studies.
They cautioned against engaging in premature or impermissible activities, instead encourage patience and allowing events to unfold naturally, under the guidance of their teachers.
In a gesture of support and appreciation, the alumni presented the School with a loudspeaker system to enhance and amplify their various activities, events and announcements.
The highlight of the day was a soccer match between BOSEC and Sawla Senior High School (SAWSEC) which ended in a draw.
The final day marked the grand finale of the week-long celebration, culminating in a glamorous event attended by distinguished dignitaries including representative of the District Director of Education, the Old Students Association, traditional leaders of Choribang community, and some political leaders.
The Assistant Headmaster Domestic, Mr. Basiru Yussif, thanked the guests for participating in the SRC Week celebrations, saying, it was a testament to the school’s strong community spirit and support.
Mr. Adams Samaila, an old student who represented the District Director of Education (DDE), emphasized that effective leadership encompasses not only guiding others but also setting a positive example and ensuring that followers meet expectations and adhere to standards.
He said that hard work is the foundation of discipline and personal innovation, serving as the driving force behind academic success and excellence, reminding the gathering that the Ghana Education Service (GES) expected students to rise above these challenges, tap into their inner resilience, and achieve the ultimate goal of academic success for which they have been entrusted as students.
He further stated that the 21st century presents a complex landscape of opportunities and challenges, fueled by globalization and societal progress. Consequently, our society he lauded, must respond and innovate to remain relevant and thrive in this new era.
As future leaders, “I urge you all to adopt a holistic approach to learning, extending your academic pursuits beyond the classroom to encompass a broader range of experiences and perspectives through critical thinking digital literacy and problem solving”.
The Senior Perfect of the school, Yaka Borosun expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Headmaster and the District Director of Education for granting them permission to celebrate the SRC Week. They also appreciated the support provided, which enabled them to make the event a success.
The student leadership appealed to political leaders to address the pressing concerns of the School, including the need for furniture to support academic activities and the completion of the dining hall, which has been under construction for years.
The student leadership advocated for the completion of the school’s perimeter fence to enhance security measures, safeguarding teachers, students and school property.
They also emphasized the need for a modern auditorium, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, to enhance the school’s infrastructure and provide a conducive environment for learning, creativity, and self-expression.
Mr. Jerry Yahaya, the former DCE encouraged the students to fully utilize the guidance and support offered by their teachers, and to apply the skills and knowledge gained to create a fulfilling and purposeful life.
He urged the final year students to put in their best to break records of the school by learning hard to produce good results.
On his part, Mohammed Shraz-deen, the Bole Health Insurance Manager encouraged students to embrace technology seriously and profitably devoid of misuse of it.
The students took the opportunity to express their gratitude by presenting awards to a select group of teachers who had demonstrated exceptional dedication and hard work in supporting their educational journey. Additionally, several students were also recognized with awards for their outstanding efforts and accomplishment.
