Must read

The Golden Jubilee of the Brong-Ahafo Catholic Co-Operative Society for Development (BACCSOD) has been launched across the Sunyani Diocese on the theme: “Building Together, Growing Together.”

The launching which took place on May 19, 2024 was also performed at the St. Paul Catholic Church, Wamfie.

BACCSOD is a Catholic Financial Co-operative, established exactly one year after the creation of the Catholic Diocese of Sunyani in 1974, by the late Bishop James Kwadwo Owusu.

During the launching at St. Paul Catholic Church, Wamfie, the Manager for BACCSOD at Wamfie, Mr. Rexford Achea Sammy encouraged the people to trust BACCSOD and save with it.

The Board Secretary, Mrs. Bertha A. Akuta encouraged parents to plan the future of their children’s education with BACCSOD with at least GHc5.00 a day.

The Board Chairman, Mr. Williams Ansu Yeboah made known to the faithful the activities to be carried out in the course of the celebration: clean up exercise, health screening, financial literacy, charity at some schools, float and games, starting from May to November.

According to him, BACCSOD offers other services including a platform for paying utility bills (water and electricity).

Speaking to Sister Communicator Esther Kutie, SVI on phone, Very Rev. Fr. Raphael Amoako Tawiah, the Diocesan Manager of BACCSOD, said, that BACCSOD started in four main Parishes – Wenchi, Sunyani, Dormaa Ahenkro and Techiman in the year 1974. But Wenchi was the first to start operations on February 2, 1974.

According to Fr. Tawiah, BACCSOD faced various challenges in the beginning that led to the collapse of some of the Societies, saying, the church had to pay off depositors at the expense of the Diocese.

These challenges, he noted, however, were mitigated with time, and “BACCSOD is now thriving.”

With a vision of eradicating poverty in the lives of people, currently, BACCSOD has employed more than 420 staff, working in 24 Societies and 51 Agencies.
