Calvary Presbyterian Honours Reverend Newlove Annan

The Calvary Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Ashaley Botwe has honoured the Reverend Newlove Kojo Annan for his composition of contemporary music and international hymnals.

Rev. Annan is a trained Minister in Church Music, Christian Worship and Liturgics from reputable institutions in Ghana and beyond.

The honour formed part of the 60th Anniversary of the Calvary congregation which was on the theme: “An Evening with Rev Newlove Kojo Annan,” with a special focus on: “Experiencing God’s Transforming Power through Music”.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Rev. Annan revealed that the inspiration behind his songs emanated from his personal encounter through his journey in life as well as other people’s life story.

“I am inspired by life circumstances and what the word of God says about life. So, for instance when I get a revelation from God and it comes to pass, it gives me the affirmation of God’s works,” he said.

Rev. Annan stressed, “on the point that the word of God is true and life, hence is the utmost key in his ministry. All to be attentive in life and take a critical look at the occurrence in our lives”.

He entreated people to associate themselves to the choir in their various churches and chorale groups as well to sing to the glorification of the Most High.

The Ace Music Composer noted that although he has series of music, he loved to listen to other songs and learn from them.

Rev. Dr. Charles Amarkwei, Minister in charge of Calvary Congregation said singing initiated transformation; “Let us use our talents and emotions to praise the Lord for a better transformation into our lives”.

The programme attracted dignitaries including; Mr Alexander Odoi, Chief Executive Officer, Sky Shipping Agency; Lawyer J. B. K. Gyasi, retired military officer and senior member of Volta River Authority; and Lawyer Angela Akosua Gyasi, Senior Attorney.

Others were: Rev. Dr. Ebenezer Obiri-Addo, Senior Minister of the Gospel, Retired Professor at Drew University, New Jersey and Consultant on Religious Studies, Lawyer Felicia Ogbo, Custom Excise and Preventive Service, and Mr. Ishmael Twum-Odoom, Head of English Department, Association International School; and Vice President of the Greater Accra Mass Choir.

Among some songs composed by Reverend Annan are; Praise O Praise, Choose You This Day, Susu ho hwe, Wei Nti Na Mesom Wo and wo bohye.

Rev Annan encouraged upcoming composers to pay attention to the voice of God and take up the work to train the ones to come after them.
