Must read

With the help of Caritas Korea, Caritas Ghana has achieved two goals of the Laudato Si Action Plan introduced by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference.

Caritas Korea with an amount of $54,700 supported Caritas Ghana to achieve goal 1 which is the response to the cry of the earth through the Action area of Sustainable Waste Management which is being implemented in the Catholic Archdiocese of Tamale under the Electronic Waste Collection and goal 2 which is the response to the cry of the poor through the action area Vocational and Technical Skill Development for the Youth.

A recycling plant has been established in the Tamale Metropolis to address the environmental challenges in the country, address issues relating to plastic waste management by reprocessing plastic waste into useful items and also support the social needs of poor and lacking communities as a result of the income generated from e-waste management and collection.

Mr. John Oheneba- Acquah, the Communication and Fundraising Officer of Caritas Ghana said his outfit has also established a training programme in garment making to create an avenue for employment among the youth in the Sunyani Diocese.

He also called for stakeholder support to respond to the goals as these goals guarantee the future of the earth.

Laudato Si’ is an encyclical of Pope Francis published in May 2015. It focuses on caring for the natural environment and all people, as well as broader questions of the relationship between God, humans, and the Earth.

To close the Laudato Si Special 5th Anniversary in May 2021, Pope Francis announced the seven-year Laudato Si Action Platform to respond to the environmental challenges of our time.
