Caritas Ghana Charts New Path With Launch of 2025–2030 Strategic Framework

Caritas Ghana, the national development and humanitarian arm of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC), has unveiled its Strategic Framework for 2025–2030, setting a bold vision for transforming vulnerable communities across the country.

The launch, which coincided with the Caritas Ghana’s inaugural Donors’ Conference at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Hostel in Accra on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, brought together Caritas Ghana staff, Diocesan Development Officers, GCBC, government officials, diplomatic representatives, development partners, and private sector actors to forge stronger partnerships.

The framework highlights six priority areas: institutional development and accountability, sustainable livelihoods, environment and climate action, peacebuilding and governance, emergency response, and improved social services in health and education.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Most Rev. Matthew K. Gyamfi, President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, called the new roadmap a “concrete programme of reform” designed to strengthen governance, refine systems, and enhance impact.

“We do not seek benefactors alone; we seek co-creators of change,” he said, urging deeper alliances for a more just and inclusive Ghana.

“This framework is not mere rhetoric; it is a concrete programme of reform. It calls us to strengthen governance, refine systems, and enhance our capacity for monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning,” he indicated.

According to Bishop Gyamfi, the Framework “commits us to the highest standards of due diligence, value for money, and demonstrable impact. In practice, this means fortifying diocesan development offices, adopting tools that ensure results are carefully tracked, and centring local leadership in all that we do.”

“We aspire to serve as a uniquely credible, community-rooted, and locally led partner, one that is deeply grounded in the wisdom of Catholic Social Teaching and enriched by the solidarity of the global Caritas family,” he added.

In an address, the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, His Excellency Julian Kabore, conveyed greetings and blessings from Pope Leo XIV.

“Charity never ends (1 Cor 13:8). All else will pass away, but the love offered in Christ’s name endures forever,” he told the gathering, emphasising the need for Caritas Ghana to move beyond service delivery to being a genuine witness of the Gospel.

He applauded Caritas Ghana’s efforts in education, healthcare, peacebuilding, livelihood support, and care for creation, noting that these initiatives embody the words of Christ: “‘I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly’ (Jn 10:10).”

Grounded in Catholic Social Teaching, the new framework commits Caritas Ghana to initiatives in livelihoods, health, education, peacebuilding, climate action, and emergency response.

Caritas Ghana, the development and humanitarian wing of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, is rooted in Catholic Social Teaching and works across all 16 regions of the country.

The organisation delivers integrated programmes in livelihoods, governance, peacebuilding, education, health, environment, and humanitarian response.
