Must read

The Catholic Professional Guilds (CPG) of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra has officially launched the 10th Anniversary edition of its May Day Games and Business Fair at the Holy Spirit Cathedral Parish Hall, Adabraka.

The event brought together Catholic Professionals from various fields, including Media, Law, Engineering, Security, Maritime, Agriculture, Health, and more.

The launch, held on April 1, 2025, was graced by the Most Rev. John Kobina Louis, an Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra.

The 10th Anniversary edition of the May Day Games and Business Fair is set to take place on May 1, 2025, at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.

The Accra Archdiocesan CPG May Day planning committee Chairman, Sir Richard Akpokavie, Esq., urged the Catholic faithful to support the initiative in various ways to ensure its success. “This is part of our responsibility to evangelise the gospel,” he stated.

Sir Akpokavie, Esq, emphasised that the celebration marks a decade of the Guilds’ contributions to professional and business growth within the Catholic community.

The event aims to celebrate ten years of impact, achievements, and growth within the guilds. Bring Catholic professionals together to connect, share ideas, and foster professional relationships.

It provides a platform for Catholic entrepreneurs and business owners to exhibit their products and services. Encourage fitness, teamwork, and camaraderie among members through sports and games.

It also strengthens the connection between faith and professional ethics, ensuring Catholic values guide business and career decisions. Inspire young Catholics to engage in professional guilds and develop their skills and businesses, he added.

This year’s celebration would focus on Agri-Business, with the presence of the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Hon. John Dumelo, alongside other distinguished resource persons who will grace the occasion.

In his address, Bishop Louis highlighted that the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, the Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, is deeply interested in the success of the Catholic Professional Guilds and is committed to seeing their growth and impact flourish.

He encouraged the Catholic faithful to attend in large numbers to support and promote the activities of the Guild.

The May Day Games initiated by the CPG in 2016 at the St. Thomas Aquinas School, Cantonments, had the blessing and patronage of the former Archbishop of Accra, the Most Rev. Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle and still have the blessing and full support of the current Archbishop of Accra, the Archbishop Kwofie.

The event was moved from St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School to the Mary Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church at Airport West in 2019. As a result of the COVID-19 restrictions, the 2020 edition was cancelled, but the 2021 edition took a different dimension where Professional Guilds had the opportunity to make strong proposals to the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra regarding how the Guilds can make an impact on the Church. The event was hosted by St. Bakhita Catholic Church at Community 20, Lashibi.

In 2022, hundreds of Catholics in Accra, including the Clergy, Religious, youth, women, and children, thronged the El-Wak Stadium to participate in the May Day Games and Business Fair.

As a flagship programme of the CPG in the Archdiocese of Accra, the Event, coordinated by Mr. Edward Ayem, aims to bring together all Catholic Professionals, irrespective of the groups or societies they belong to, in an environment of fun and games to socialize while building business networks.

It is also an event with the mission of identifying and facilitating the establishment and growth of professional Guilds by the Catholic faith, to the benefit of the guild members, the Church’s mission, and society at large. It is also an opportunity to identify solely as Catholics with different expertise, thereby fostering unity and promoting oneness.

The 10th-anniversary celebration promises to be an exciting and enriching experience, bringing together faith, professionalism, and business development in a unique and impactful way.
