Catholic Bishops in Ghana Call for Prayers for Repose of the Soul of Pope Francis

Must read

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) has issued a statement announcing the death of His Holiness Pope Francis, who passed away earlier today.

In the statement, signed by the Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Catholic Bishop of Sunyani and President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, he expressed sorrow but with faith in the victory of Christ over death.

Pope Francis, who served as the Supreme Pontiff and “Servant of the Servants of God,” is remembered for his humility and faith.

The statement read, “ As the Successor of St. Peter. Pope Francis served the Church with profound humility, unwavering faith, and a tireless commitment to the poor, to peace, and to the care of the environment, our common home. His life and ministry were a powerful witness to the Gospel values of love, mercy, and compassion.”

In light of this significant loss for the Universal Church, the GCBC has called upon all Bishops, Priests, Religious, and lay faithful across Ghana to join in prayer for the repose of Pope Francis’ soul.

In honour of Pope Francis, the Bishops Conference has announced plans for a National Memorial Mass to be celebrated at a later date, inviting all who can attend to participate in this solemn liturgy.

Additionally, they are encouraging all Archdioceses, Dioceses, and Parishes to organise local Requiem Masses and special Holy Hours dedicated to the late Pope.

“These should be moments of prayerful reflection on his teachings and witness.”

Catholic institutions, including schools and Seminaries, have also been encouraged to host prayer services, discussions, or talks that reflect on Pope Francis’ teachings and legacy, particularly aimed at engaging the youth.
