Catholic Church in Accra Issues new Directives: Societies Permitted to hold Meetings

Following the 14th COVID-19 address by His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, the office of the Vicar General of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra has outlined 20 areas for adherence by the Catholic faithful in the Archdiocese.

Notable among these 20 areas is that societies of adult members have been permitted to hold meetings or devotions, a statement from Very Fr. John Kobina Louis stated.

“Priests and Religious meetings, marriage counselling sessions and societal meetings or devotions which involve adults may resume,” the statement said.

The July 30 statement however noted that religious gathering for children are still on hold.

“Catechism Classes, Children Services and other religious gatherings that involve children are still to be on hold until further notice” the statement said.

The statement directed pastors together with their Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) to provide special pastoral care for children.

The statement stressed that Priests can now hear confessions under the conditions that he and the penitent wear face masks, both should respect social distancing of 2 metres apart and the sacredness of the sacrament is never to be compromised.
