Catholics in Ghana have been encouraged to resort to the streaming of Mass online following a directive by the President of the country asking all schools and Churches in the country to close down.
A statement sighted by Newswatchgh.com said all Catholics and people of faith should intensify individual and family prayers and encourages all to read the daily Mass readings and reflections provided on several social media platforms.
Ghana will from today Monday, March 16, 2020, shut down all schools, both public and private, as well as Churches and other gatherings as it moves to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
The move, according to President Akufo-Addo will be in place until further notice and comes on the back of an increase in the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country.
The country has recorded four new cases, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to six(6) as of Sunday, March 15, 2020.

Following the address of the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo at 10pm on Sunday March 15, 2020 in which new directives were issued on the Coronavirus Pandemic, the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference urge full compliance as follows:1. All Public Masses be suspended for the next four weeks
2. All Public Spiritual Programmes such as retreats, devotions, meetings, confessions, pilgrimages etc. be suspended for the next four weeks
3. All Catholic Schools be closed until further notice as directed
4. All funerals and weddings should be suspended for the next four weeks
5. That burials may be performed but with not more than 25 people in attendance
We also recommend the following:
1. That daily private Masses should be offered for God’s intervention with not
more than five people in attendance2. That Churches and adoration chapels be opened for private prayers by parishioners.
Please, do well to observe the required distance of two meters
and pray in silence.3. That where possible, live streaming of Masses should be encouraged to enable
the faithful receive spiritual Communion4. We exhort all Catholics and people of faith to intensify individual and family prayers and encourage all to read the daily Mass readings and reflections provided on several social media platforms.
In addition to the above recommendations, we urge all Ghanaians to keep observing
the basic precautionary measures that will help minimize the spread of the virus as well as protect oneself from being infected with Covid-19.
