Catholic Professional Guilds Launches Welfare Policy for Members

Must read

The Catholic Professional Guilds (CPG) of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra in collaboration with Enterprise Life Insurance Company has launched a welfare policy to cater for the needs of members and their dependents.

The scheme, known as ‘Boafo Pa’, provides benefits between GH¢10,000 to GH¢15,000 for members in times of bereavement and severe illness.

During a presentation at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra on Friday, February 16, 2024, three premium beneficiaries received a total of GH¢ 35,000 to attend to various needs.

Rev. Fr. Dennis Opoku, Chaplain of the Catholic Professional Guilds, speaking at the event, advised members to discard negative perceptions about signing on to insurance packages.

He said insurance was “a risk worth taking” to benefit an individual and those around them, therefore, members should take advantage of the policy.

“As a church we believe in quality and professionalism and that is why we have aligned with this policy…don’t look at the money you’re giving out but the better future you are building for yourselves,” he said.

The policy has gold and platinum packages with yearly premiums of GH¢360 and GH¢480 respectively. The gold package pays benefits up to GH¢54,300 the platinum package pays up to GH¢82,500.

Gold package for members in times of critical illness was pegged at GH¢5,000 while the platinum package stood at GH¢ 7,500.

Mrs. Adwoa Pinaman Acquah, Managing Director, Westom Insurance Brokers, assured members of quality and prompt service delivery from Enterprise Life Insurance, adding that there was no “waiting period” on the policy specifically designed for member of the Association.

“We had to take one of the best life insurance companies in the country to lead this because the Catholic Church is big so you need a company that has the capacity, and can take us very far,” she said.

In her presentation, she highlighted the importance of the welfare policy as it would save the church from bearing extra costs for parishioners in unforeseen circumstances.

“The good thing with this package is that when it happens, the church may decide not to do silver collections again…we just fall on this, come to the grounds and do a presentation on behalf of the guild,” she added.

Present at the ceremony were Mr. Bernard Atta-Sonnu, Chairman of the Council of CPG, Mr. Edward Ayem, Coordinator of the CPG, Mr. Nana Akwasi Oduro-Akuoko, Senior Manager; Inclusive Insurance of Enterprise Life, Mr. Robert Dela Mawuenyegah, PRO of CPG and other members of CPG.
