“Develop Friendly and Affable Hearts to the Cries of the Poor”- Archbishop Kwofie

Must read

The Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie CSSp, Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, has called on all priests, religious, and lay faithful to make the church a welcoming environment for all.

In his homily during the ordination of Rev. Fr. Mamertus Adaklumegah MCCJ and Rev. Fr. Godwin Kwasi Kudzi CSJ at the Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, New Achimota, on Saturday, January 24, 2026, Archbishop Kwofie noted that some actions push people away from the church.

He said, “Sometimes our actions close the door of the church to many people… We need a certain tenderness and compassion to listen to people”.

According to the Archbishop, it is important to have a listening ear that would bring the church closer to people wherever they are.

Archbishop Kwofie also noted that in order to bring people closer to the church, one must emulate the life of Jesus Christ to preach the word of God.

He said, “My dearly beloved, Jesus gave us many examples of going to towns and villages to preach. In Matthew 9:35, Jesus, the itinerant preacher, went through towns and villages preaching the word of God”.

Archbishop Kwofie also urged all faithful to live “humbly and maturely” to get closer to God.

“We have been called by Christ, some as apostles and others as prophets, some as evangelists and others as pastors and teachers, so that we equip his people for works of service so that the Body of Christ will be built in them”, he said.

He added, “What we hope for is unity, the service we profess and acknowledge Christ as the son of God. When this is done, we have attained the full measure of it”.
