The National Union of Ghana Catholic Diocesan Priests’ Associations (NUGCDPA) has donated an amount of GHS 100,000 to support Ms. Victoria Atsoribo in undergoing an urgent plastic surgery at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The donation was presented on behalf of NUGCDPA by Rev. Fr. Henry Cafuie Ahorlu, the President of the Accra Archdiocesan Priests’ Association on Friday, March 21,2025.
He was joined by Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obeng Codjoe, the Public Relations Officer of the Union and Parish Priest of St. James Catholic Church, Osu, Rev. Fr. Michael Apaloo, the Catholic Chaplain at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and Pastor of St. Luke Catholic Church, and Rev. Fr. Carl Kwao-Agboado from the Catholic Diocese of Ho.
The donation took place following an appeal launched by Very Rev. Fr. Thaddeus Kuusah, the President of NUGCDPA, on March 15, 2025.
According to Selina Ayiku, Nurse in charge of the Children’s ward at Kpando Margaret Marquat Hospital, 9-year-old Victoria Atsoribo was admitted on December 5, 2024 with burns.
Victoria had come back from school and decided to set fire to prepare something to eat only for her dress to be caught by the fire without anyone at home to quench the fire on her.
Nurse Selina has said that Victoria has received 8 units of blood, nutritional rehabilitation and physiotherapy.
She said, “So she is doing well. The wound is fine but we want to refer for a plastic surgeon to do skin crafting for her.”
Mr. Bright Danquah Dumevi, an uncle of Victoria, received the donation on her behalf at Korle-Bu.
During the presentation, Fr. Kwao-Agboado offered prayers for Victoria, her family, and the dedicated medical professionals who would be involved in her care.
In addition to the financial support, a copy of the Ecce Sacerdos Magazine was presented to the nurses at the Plastic Surgery Department, further emphasizing the Union’s commitment to uplifting and supporting healthcare workers.
