Divine Word Missionaries in Ghana Visit Lepers in Nkanchina

Must read

The Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) office of the Society of the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD), Ghana-Liberia Province made a visit to one of the Leprosaria in the Northern Region of Ghana.

Each year, through the support of some benevolent people, the SVDs make visits to one or the other Leprosaria in some parts of the country; to present food items, interact and pray with them at their respective residence or centers and homes.

This year, the SVDs visited Nkanchina, one of the towns in the Kpandai Districts, also an Outstation of St. Kizito Catholic Church, under the Archdiocese of Tamale.

A couple of the SVD Priests and Brothers were pioneering missionaries and Parish Priests in the said parish. Notable were Rev. Fr. William De Leeuw, SVD, Rev. Fr. Alfred Ayem, SVD, Rev. Fr. Kofi Ron Langi, SVD and Rev. Fr. Alphonse Dungdung, SVD.

Rev. Fr. Moses Nsenminya, the Parish Priest, on behalf of the Director of the Center Rev. Bro. Ken Kunditani, CSC, received the items from the JPIC Team.

He expressed his utmost joy and appreciation to the Society of the Divine Word for their kind gesture to our brothers and sisters. He noted that in the past years, the SVDs had shown same kindness to the center.

He wished the entire Society of the Divine Word in the whole world a happy 150th anniversary.

“As you prepare to celebrate your 150th Anniversary in the world as a Catholic Missionary Society, may the Lord continue to strengthen our companionship as pilgrims of hope,” he said.

Rev. Fr. Nicholas Aazine, SVD, the Coordinator of JPIC and his team prayed and interacted with the lepers.

The lepers equally expressed their gratitude to the SVDs, the entire Catholic Church and the benefactors.

Besides their gratitude, they also alluded some concerns: lack of water and electricity in their facility. Of course, as the popular saying goes, ‘Oliver will always ask for more’.

The team also met with those who live in Kpandai township, who expressed their gratitude to the JPIC team and the SVDs at large.

The Director of the Centre,  Rev. Bro. Ken, expressed appreciations from the others, “I am truly grateful to the team that came all the way through our deplorable roads to offer such kindness to our brothers and sisters. May the Lord continue to touch the heart of many more good people to help our brothers and sisters at the center and other places as well”.
