Following the targeting of African nationals including Ghanaians for compulsory testing, quarantine and eviction in the Guangdong Province in China, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has called for a lasting solution to the situation.
“The government of Ghana has taken note of this development and is keenly monitoring the situations,” a Release from the Ministry on April 13, 2020 stated.
According to the press release, the Ministry was informed by the Ghana Mission in Beijing that the Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China met a group of African ambassadors, including His Excellency Edward Boateng, Ghana’s ambassador to China to resolve the issue.
“At the said meeting, it was announced that the government of the People’s Republic of China has taken note of happenings and was taking immediate steps to stop the targeting of and ill-treatment meted out to Africans, particularly our compatriots in the Guangdong Province,” the Release stated.
The Ministry of Foreign affairs entreated all Ghanaians both home and abroad especially those in China, particularly Guangdong Province to remain calm, and to stay in contact with the Ghana Mission in Beijing and the Consulate-General in Guangzhou and share concerns for further occurrence on the numbers: +8618612081400, +861861295040.
“The government of Ghana values the bond of friendship, bilateral and multilateral cooperation which spans over six decades, and which has waxed stronger under the leadership of H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo and H.E Xi Jinping, and therefore calls upon the Chinese Government to speedily and comprehensively find a lasting solution to this unfortunate issue,” the release said.
