Fish Pond St. Anthony Catholic Church Appreciates the Elderly

Must read

The Elderly above 50 years of the St. Anthony Catholic Church at Fishpond in Accra have been celebrated with social activities interspersed with motivational talks on the memorial of the birth of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

The September 21, 2022 event, an innovation of Rev. Fr. Raymond Osei-Tutu, Priest-in-charge and Chancellor of the Accra Archdiocese, was to bring the adults together as a family, relive and appreciate their good works to the Church.

It also to entertain them on a holiday dedicated to Dr. Nkrumah so that they would know that the Church indeed remembers and cares for them in diverse ways.

“The idea is to celebrate parishioners above 50 years on Nkrumah Day. It is also to remember the works they have done for the Church over the years especially during their youthful days,” Fr. Osei-Tutu told newswatcgh.com on September 21.

According to him, the elderly need to be celebrated when they are alive but not when they are no more, noting that this innovation was also to keep parishioners alive and not subject them to only to spiritual activities.

It is through some of these entertaining activities that would make the parishioners feel at home, Fr. Osei-Tutu added.

As part of the socialisation, the Church feted the 50 years and above parishioners while there was free checking of pressure and temperature.

Parishioners who are hairdressers, beauticians and barbers gave their services for free to the elderly. Others benefited from free pedicure, manicure and hair styles.

A similar social and entertaining activity was held for parishioners who are 49 years and below in the evening of Friday, September 23, 2022.
