The 2025 Annual Plenary Assembly of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) is underway in Damongo, the capital of the Savannah Region of Ghana.
This year’s assembly, being held under the theme: “A Synodal Church at the Service of Justice and Peace in Ghana,” runs from November 7 to 14, 2025.

Following their arrival on Friday, November 7, the Bishops commenced their activities on Saturday, November 8, with visits to some of the region’s historic and cultural landmarks.
The Prelates toured the world-renowned Mole National Park, where they experienced Ghana’s rich natural heritage, and later visited the ancient Larabanga Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in West Africa.

The day concluded with a courtesy call and lunch banquet hosted by Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for Damongo Constituency and former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.
Hon. Jinapor warmly welcomed the Bishops, expressing his joy and gratitude for having the leadership of the Catholic Church in his hometown.
He commended the Church for its continuous contribution to national development, education, and peacebuilding.

This year’s Conference being, hosted by the Bishop of Damongo, the Most Rev. Peter Paul Angkyier, is both a privilege and a blessing for the Damongo community and the entire Savannah Region.
It comes at a time when the Damongo Diocese of the Catholic Church is celebrating its 30th anniversary, having been created as a Diocese in June 1995
According to the MP, “As a born, baptized, confirmed, and practicing Catholic, I am personally humbled by this opportunity. I join the faithful in praying for a successful and impactful conference, one that will deepen our faith and renew our collective commitment to national development.”

He added: “I have every confidence that the deliberations and prayers shared here will inspire lasting contributions to the spiritual and social growth of our nation.”
“I, also, take this opportunity to wish the Bishop, Priests and Lay Faithful of the Catholic Diocese of Damongo a happy anniversary. May this anniversary, which coincides with the Jubilee Year of Hope, inspire hope, love and joy among all the faithful and for our country.”

The official opening ceremony of the Plenary Assembly is scheduled for Monday, November 10, 2025, at the Conference Hall, Unity Center, Damongo, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
The closing ceremony will take place on Friday, November 14, 2025, at St. Anne’s Cathedral, Damongo, at 6:30 p.m.
The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, led by its President, the Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi and hosted by the Most Rev. Peter Paul Y. Angkyier, Bishop of Damongo, brings together Catholic Bishops from across the country to deliberate on key issues affecting the Church and the State.

Meanwhile, as part of activities leading up to the opening of the 2025 Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference Plenary Assembly in Damongo, the Bishops also paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Damongo Traditional Area,Damongo Wura Seidu Kelly Boresa I.

The visit was marked by warm exchanges of goodwill and mutual respect, highlighting the strong bond between the Church and traditional leadership in promoting peace and development.
Following the royal visit, the Bishops embarked on a tour of the Mole National Park and the historic Larabanga Mystic Mosque, appreciating the rich cultural and natural heritage of the Savannah Region.
The day’s events beautifully set the tone for the official opening ceremony of the 2025 Plenary Assembly in Damongo.
