President Nana Akufo- Addo in his sixth address to the nation declared that government will fully absorb electricity bills for the poorest of the poor for three months.
This he explained further that, as part of the government’s initiative to alleviate the coronavirus pandemic on social and economic life of citizens by absorbing water bills and putting in efforts to supply water to all citizens for April, May and June, as he stated in his previous address to the nation.
He said electricity bills for all lifeline consumers which include people who consume zero (0) to fifty (50) kilowatt hours a month will also be absorbed by the government for the period or three months.
Furthermore, 50% of electricity bill will be absorbed by government throughout the period for other consumers, residential and commercial using the bill for March 2020 as a benchmark.
He added that this initiative is being initiated to support industries, enterprises and the service sector and to provide some relief for households for lost income in these difficult times.
Nevertheless, he urged Ghanaians to exercise discipline in their use of water and electricity.
He expressed gratitude to the personnel of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Metropolitan, Muncipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) with the assistance of the faith-based organizations for the distribution of food items to people in Accra and Kumasi.
He also thanked the People’s Republic of China, the United States of America (USA), the African Union(AU), African Development Bank (ADB), International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the European Union (EU), and the Jack Ma Foundation, for their assistance to fight the pandemic.
He appealed to the general public to continue to comply with the measures that are being put in place to curb the pandemic thus maintain good hygiene and respect the social distance protocols even when going out to receive food and also to stay at home.
He urged all Ghanaians to avoid large gatherings and parties and stay at home though it Easter season.
