Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland, His Excellency Papa Owusu-Ankomah has praised the Catholic Church for their contribution to quality human resource development.
During a courtesy call paid him by Mr. Korshie Mawueliplim, a Ghanaian Post Graduate student studying at the School of Research and Graduate Studies at the Saint Mary’s University in London, UK, His Excellency Owusu-Ankomah applauded the Catholic Church for their immense contribution to quality human resource capacity and development.
While praising the Catholic Church, he specifically recounted his cordial relationship with the Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, whom he described as a cheerful Roman Catholic Bishop who always had the welfare of people at heart without any discrimination or biases.
He recalled how Archbishop Kwofie, then Bishop of Sekondi-Takoradi Diocese drove to his residence in Sekondi in the Western Region of Ghana to show appreciation to him for his support to the Catholic Church. He described that gesture by Archbishop Kwofie as the deepest appreciation he had ever received as a politician and a diplomat.
Archbishop Kwofie was Bishop of Sekondi-Takoradi from July 3, 2014 to January 2, 2019, when he was appointed by the Holy Father Pope Francis as the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra.
The courtesy call by Mr. Mawulikplim was to familiarise himself with the Ghana High Commissioner and discuss issues bothering Ghanaian students at large and how Government of Ghana could support students studying abroad and also ensure that such students return home as a human resource capacity for national development.
The interactive session with the seasoned Ghanaian Diplomat and Politician which lasted for about two hours ended with an advice to Mr. Mawueliplim to focus on his studies and to also excel throughout the duration of his study.
His Excellency, Papa Owusu Ankomah admonished Ghanaian students studying abroad especially in the UK to make every effort to return home to Ghana to complement the human capacity for national development.
