Must read

Some students of the Akuse Methodist Senior High School in the Eastern Region have been diagnosed of H1N1 swine flu and human coronavirus ( HCoVs).

Unconfirmed report suggests that 13 of the students tested positive for H1N1 whiles 19 were positive for the HCoVs.

The students have been on isolation at the school’s sick bay since Friday, July 2.

A couple of years ago, Akuse Methodist SHS had an outbreak of the H1N1

Health experts attributed the situation to unhygienic practices and conditions.

The school’s environment is said to be a contributory factor to such outbreaks.

The outbreak of Human coronaviruses (HCoVs ) are known respiratory pathogens associated with a range of respiratory outcomes .

It is associated with multiple respiratory diseases of varying severity including common cold, pneumonia and bronchilitis.

HCoVs has also been expedited by factors such as urbanization and poultry farming.

They also thrive in rainy seasons.

In humans, coronaviruses can cause infections of the respiratory system with damage of varying severity in the lower and upper respiratory tract.

Efforts to get the Municipal Health Directorate and Disease Control Unit to give more information proved futile as at the time of filing this report.
