The Catholic Diocese of Ho in the Volta Region of Ghana on Friday, March 11, 2022 had their turn to launch the Lumen Christi TV Project (LC TV) and town hall meeting at St. Francis of Assisi Parish Ho Kpevele.
The theme for the launch was “Living the authentic Christian Social Teaching through Mass Media Evangelization”.
The Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu SVD, Bishop of Ho Diocese chaired the programme.
Mr. Emmanuel Mensah, the Ho Diocesan Laity Council Chairman in a keynote address, recounted the many efforts made by the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference (GCBC) and the Catholic Church in Ghana to obtain a frequency to operate a TV station in the country, but for the prohibition of Religious bodies to own such media per government directives given in the early 1990s.
Mr. Mensah stated that in July 1990, the Laity Council were advised to take up this challenge as a corporate entity to apply for a frequency, which was taken up by the Knights of Marshall and St. John International.
According to him, the GCBC at a plenary session in Accra, on May 20, 2020 approved this aged long discussion for action and have tasked the Laity to be joint owners of the project.
The National Catholic Television when established, will broadcast the rich and diverse Catholic contents to serve the Laity and the general public.
Mr. Mensah urged all lay faithful to support this project financially, in other to achieve the objective of establishing a National Television for the Catholic Church in Ghana.
A Diocesan Implementation Sub-Committee (DISC), Fundraising Sub-Committee (DFSC), and Diocesan Content Sub-Committee were inaugurated and induction into office by the Bishop, who entreated all to give the necessary support towards the realisation of the project.
Bishop Fianu urged Catholics and charitable organisations to give generously to ensuring that the National Catholic Television Project agenda, which is being driven by the Church in Ghana, comes to fruition.
