Must read

All roads are leading to Ho, the Volta Regional Capital as the Our Lady of Apostle (OLA) Senior High School climaxes its 70th anniversary with a durbar and thanksgiving Mass on  February 3 and 4, 2024 respectively.

At the time of going to press, scores of members of the Past OLA Girls Association (POGA) had participated in a candle light procession to the campus and had a bonfire night and borborbor dance show.

As part of the anniversary on theme: “Reminiscing 70 years of Holistic Catholic Education: The Role of Stakeholders in Embracing Technology and Entrepreneurship for the Future”, a grand durbar would be held tomorrow Saturday, February 3, 2024 during speeches would be delivered and some students and individuals awarded.

The award prizes were mainly sponsored by past students of OLA Girls (POGs) and some old boys of Bishop Herman College including Mr. Lawrence Adoboe, BHOBU 92/94, who donated GHc1,000 to be awarded to the Best Overall STEM (ICT/NSMQ Final Year Student).

In an appreciation for the gesture, Dr. Edem Sabah Welbeck, the global President of POGA said “On behalf of the POGA Global community, we extend our deepest gratitude for your incredibly generous offer of 1000gh to be awarded to the Best Overall STEM (ICT/NSMQ Final Year Student).”

She added: “Your commitment to recognizing and rewarding academic excellence in the field of STEM is truly commendable,” saying “I am thrilled to share the wonderful news that you desire to institutionalize this award annually.

“Your dedication to fostering educational achievements will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the lives of aspiring students and contribute significantly to the advancement of STEM education,” the POGA President stated.

During the launch of the anniversary last year, the Old Students announced the mobilization of resources to construct a 700-bed ultra-modern dormitory for the school. The edifice, which will be known as ‘’POGA Legacy House’’, when completed, will house facilities such as shops, private rooms for students, and bucket storage rooms, among others.

All is set for the breaking of grounds for the commencement of the project during the climax, this was made known by Dr. Edem Sabah-Welbeck in an interview with a private radio station in Ho.

The project is expected to ease pressure on the existing school facilities and also ensure the accommodation of more students.

With the Motto: ‘Vitam Praesta Puram’. ‘Grant us a pure life; a life without reproach, the Our Lady of Apostles’ Senior High School, popularly known as OLA Girls in Ho, was established on February 1, 1954 by Bishop Anthony Konings, then Bishop of the Keta Diocese of the Catholic Church.

From humble beginnings with a student population of 35, the school has risen to become one of the best schools in the Volta Region and, indeed, Ghana.

The contribution of the early missionaries to the human resource development of the country by prioritising education cannot be over-emphasised.
