Must read

The Management of Holy Rosary School in Donkorkrom, Kwahu Afram Plains North, in the Eastern Region of Ghana has organized a meeting for parents and teachers of its very first batch Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Candidates in preparation for the upcoming Exams.

The meeting which took place in the School Assembly Hall on June 11, 2024 aimed at updating the parents on how far the school has gone in terms of preparing their children for the exams, and also to remind them of their own responsibilities geared towards the success of the Candidates.

Prior to this meeting, a WhatsApp group had been created for parents and teachers of the Candidates where there have been successive discussions on how better to help the Candidates to be better prepared for the exams, both in school and at home.

During the meeting, Sr. Stella Nwosu, MSHR, the Headmistress of the school gave a run-down of some practical activities that have been carried out so far in view of the exams and those yet to be achieved, which included the following:

Mass would be celebrated in the School on Wednesday 3th July for the success of the Candidates, before they leave for the exams that will run from 8th to 12th July. Parents were encouraged to join for the Mass in praying for their children.

Sr. Nwosu further informed the parents that the Centre for the exams would be at the St. Michael’s Roman Catholic School at Donkorkrom. To this effect, the school management has made lodging arrangements for the children.

They would be camping at the St. Alphonse Merten’s Centre, very close to the writing Centre throughout the one-week examination period.

This arrangement, the Headmistress reiterated, was to ensure the safety of the children and prevent them from loitering in the town, but have some quiet time and space to do their last-minute preparations, and a teacher will be with them throughout that period.

Parents however have the responsibility to cater for their children’s feeding within these days, apart from lunch that will be provided by the School.

Parents and Candidates were further informed that there will be a graduating ceremony in the School for the KG 2, Primary 6 and JHS 3 (BECE Candidates) on the 23rd of July, 2024, and all were invited.

In terms of academics and the level of readiness of the Candidates, one of the teachers shared that the children have been drilled on Essay Writing and each subject teacher has been taking them through past question papers that had been made available by the school Management.

Also, a series of mocks had been written to expose the children on the nature of the exams. The School had also organised holiday classes for the Candidates and presently, there are extended revision classes for the children after school hours.

The teachers however expressed the worry that the candidates do not take much interest in reading, and encouraged them to take their reading more seriously. The parents in turn also urged them to reduce play and spend more time on their books, given the little time left for the exams to be written.

One of the BECE Candidates, Johnleslie Kekeli Lodonu, on behalf of his mates, thanked everyone and promised that they would put in their best as the first batch of the School to make the administration, their parents and teachers proud by passing in flying colours.
