The British Council Hall on the Liberia Road in Accra was filled with harmonious praise and gratitude on Saturday, January 10, 2026, as the New Horizon Special School, in partnership with the La Foundation for the Arts (LAFA), held an uplifting concert titled “For Every Mountain – Classical Meets Gospel.”
The event featured an extraordinary lineup of international vocal talents, including the legendary New York City songstress, Angela Watson, known for her magical voice (“la sua voce magica”), Cameroonian tenor sensation Guy Bertrand K, and Nigerian lyric tenor Kelvin Uhondo.
They were masterfully accompanied by pianist, Dr. George François, Executive Director of the New Horizon Special School and Associate Professor in Ashesi University, clarinetist Keyara Fleece of Lincoln School, and other talented musicians.

The night of classical and gospel led audiences across two inspiring halves, with the first featuring classical selections with solos, duets, and trios from masters including Rossini, Puccini, Nino Rota, Giordani, Gershwin, and Leonard Cohen’s iconic “Hallelujah.”
The second half featured powerful Gospel classics by legends, including Mahalia Jackson, Luther Barnes, the Clark Sisters, Richard Smallwood, Brooklyn Tabernacle, and Edwin Hawkins.
The concert’s title, “For Every Mountain,” carried profound meaning, highlighting the deep faith of the school’s founder, the late Madame Salome Anyorkor François.

The concert also marked the 53rd anniversary of the New Horizon Special School, which was established on January 10, 1972, with just three students in its home.
The evening served as a musical testament of thanksgiving for blessings amid obstacles, emphasizing that for each “mountain” there is a resounding “Hallelujah!”

Proceeds gathered during the event will directly support the school’s educational programs and innovative art therapy initiatives for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism.
