The Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, the Most Rev. Henryk Mieczysław Jagodziński, has encouraged Apostles of the National Sacred Heart of Jesus Enthronement Centre in Ghana to involve all Catholics, especially the youth, in promoting devotions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as a Synodal Church to grow the Catholic faith in Ghana and beyond.
Addressing a delegation of the Executives of the National Sacred Heart of Jesus Enthronement Centre, Ghana on Monday, January 8, 2024 at the Apostolic Nunciature, Accra, he pledged his unflinching support in promoting the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Divine Mercy and the Immaculate Heart of Mary devotions
The delegation paid a courtesy call on the Nuncio to Ghana during which they briefed him about the upcoming 10th National Sacred Heart of Jesus Congress and the Golden Jubilee of the establishment of the Enthronement Centre in Ghana.
The Congress is scheduled to take place in the Catholic Archdiocese of Tamale at the Tamale Jubilee Park from Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 September, 2024. The theme for the Congress is: “National Sacred Heart of Jesus Enthronement Centre, Ghana @ 50: Building a Synodal Church, the Role of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Devotional Practices by the Catholic Family”.
The delegation was made up of the National Spiritual Director, Rev. Fr. Bernard Obeng-Gyamfi; Former National President and Vice Chairperson of the National Advisory Council, Sis. Dame Dr. Mrs. Cecilia Adwoa Kwofie; National President, Sis. Mrs. Elizabeth Tapang-Tettey and the National Secretary, Bro. Medard Hope Zodanu.
Briefing the Nuncio on behalf of the delegation, Dame Kwofie stated that the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference had tasked the National Sacred Heart of Jesus Enthronement Centre, Ghana, a body mandated to coordinate and direct the devotional activities of the Confraternities of the Catholic Church in Ghana to organise the National Congress every five years.
She stated that the Congress is also aimed to bring God’s people together to celebrate the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
She explained that the main essence of the Congress is to promote the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Divine Mercy and Immaculate Heart of Mary in Parishes, Churches, homes, communities.
According to her, the need for personal spiritual growth with its attendant effectiveness in the family; and also, the promotion of the Social Teachings of the Catholic Church were also part of the aims of the Enthronement Centre.
Dame Kwofie highlighted some of the activities which take place at the Congress: Masses, healing services, talks, group discussions, faith sharing, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, evangelisation, procession through the principal streets, and internal tourism among others.
She added that as part of the Congress, Ghana is re-consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and during which the devotees fervently pray for peace before, during and after general elections.
She noted that because of the Synodality of the Catholic Church, during the Congress, the Bishops meet and interact with the pilgrims in their own local languages in group discussions as well as the ‘Tarcisians’ (the youth wing of the Confraternity) have special encounter with the Bishops since the Congress is more focused on the Tarcisians (the youth).
Thanking the Apostolic Nuncio for the fruitful meeting and his fatherly support, the delegation appealed to him for a goodwill message, blessings and encouragement from His Holiness Pope Francis to the lay faithful of the Congress.
The Nuncio was happy for invitation to the Congress in Tamale and imparted his blessings and prayers for a grace-filled and successful Congress.
Mrs. Elizabeth Tettey-Tapang together with Fr. Bernard Obeng-Gyamfi presented copies of the Sacred Heart of Jesus’ Treasury and other Devotions to the Apostolic Nuncio and the Secretary.
Prior to the meeting, the National Spiritual Director led the Divine Mercy prayers at the Chapel of the Nunciature after which the delegation was warmly welcomed by the Secretary to the Apostolic Nuncio, Rev. Fr. Maher Chammas.
