The St. Michael Co-Cathedral Church in Keta was filled with solemn reflection and reverent prayer as parishioners gathered to celebrate a Requiem Mass in memory of His Holiness Pope Francis on Saturday, April 26, 2025, the day the Pope was buried.
The Church, in union with the Vatican, prayed for the peaceful rest of the Pontiff
In his homily, Very Rev. Fr. Michael Elorm Gbordzor, Co-Cathedral Administrator, said, “I told myself that there is no need to pray for the peaceful repose of the Pope because he is already with God.”

He described Pope Francis as a humble servant of God who championed peace, justice, compassion for the poor, and unity in the Church.
He called on the faithful to emulate the Pope’s love for humanity and his dedication to social and environmental justice.
According to Fr. Gbordzor, Pope Francis lived the Gospel with simplicity and courage. His leadership brought hope to the marginalized and inspired the Church to care for our common home.
Prayers were also offered for the Catholic Church worldwide as she mourns the passing of her spiritual leader.
Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, served as the 266th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. He was elected in March 13, 2013, after the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI.
His papacy was marked by efforts to reform the Church, promote interfaith dialogue, and advocate for the environment and the poor.
The Requiem Mass in Keta was one of many being held globally as Catholics around the world unite in prayer and remembrance of a beloved Pope.
