The Knights of St. John International and Ladies’ Auxiliary in Ghana have expressed concerns over recent educational materials, citing “inconsistency with the Ghanaian cultural, biological, and moral understanding of the human person.”
In a statement issued on 19th January, 2026 and signed by Maj. Gen. (Engr.) Charles Osei Joseph, Supreme Subordinate Commandery President, and Noble Sister Emma Asomani, Supreme Ladies’ Auxiliary President, the order has urged swift actions on pending legislation related to human sexual rights and family values.
The statement read, “… we issued a statement on LGBTQ+ and submitted the same to the Office of the Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament. The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference issued a similar one on 8th September 2020. This statement was in support of the fact that, in the not-too-distant future, a law on LGBTQ+ activities would be passed. Sadly, four years down the line, the bill has not materialized”.
In the statement, KSJI, Ghana, noted recent controversies surrounding a Year 2 Senior High School Physical Education and Health Teacher’s Manual.

According to them, the educational material, issued by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, prompted public outcry and the manual’s withdrawal.
“How could this even find its way into the teacher’s manual without being noticed? Does this not raise concerns about supervision in the determination and production of our educational materials?”, they questioned.
The statement also highlighted the press release from the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference on January 16, 2026, on curriculum integrity.
KSJI, Ghana have also called on Parliament’s leadership and majority to urgently reintroduce and pass the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill.
The statement read, “We call on the Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament and the leadership of Parliament to consistently raise the passage of this bill on the floor of Parliament with the desire to bring some pressure to bear on the majority in Parliament.”
Additionally, they have called for an urgent audit and review of all educational materials by NaCCA and the Ministry of Education to withdraw any unauthorized content and establish scrutiny and approval processes for future curriculum materials.
