The Supreme Subordinate Commandery and Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John International (KSJI) has made a donation of GH¢ 30,000 to the COVID-19 FUND of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference.
The donation is to assist the Catholic Church in Ghana to cater for its health facilities as well as the needy and the vulnerable in the society during the period of coronavirus pandemic.
The Catholic Church in Ghana which currently has a total of 129 health facilities, including 46 hospitals and 83 clinics will need PPE and other medical supplies to manage the worrying global upsurge of COVID-19.
The support from KSJI-Ghana is in response to an appeal made by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference to groups and individuals to assist the Church to equip its health facilities to help curb the COVID-19 pandemic.
Major General C.N Peter Sangber-Dery, the President of the Supreme Subordinate Commandery of Ghana who led the delegation said “This is our widow’s mite to give a helping hand to Your Lordships in your quest to support the national effort aimed at providing various protective tools for our frontline health workers; especially those in the 46 hospitals and the 83 Clinics that fall under the Catholic Health Service”.
The event which took place at the National Catholic Secretariat (NCS) in Accra on April 17, 2020 saw the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie representing the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference.
The Archbishop appreciated the kind gesture of the Ancient and Noble Order and encouraged other groups to replicate this gesture of true love and brotherhood.
The other members of the KSJI delegation were Brigadier Generals William Adjei, and Joe Ben Daware, 1st Vice President and Treasurer respectively of the Supreme Subordinate Commandery.
The Sisters included Noble Sister Eugenia Enyimayew, President of the Supreme Subordinate Ladies Auxiliary and the Secretary, Noble Sister Aisha Cecilia Armah.
Also present were Very Rev. Fr. Lazarus Anondee, Secretary-General of NCS, Rev. Fr. Charles Boampong Sarfo, Assistant Secretary-General of NCS, the DEPSOCOM Director, Rev. Fr. Dieu-Donne Kofi Davor and some other directors of the National Catholic Secretariat.
The Knights of St. John International (KSJI) is a prominent society in the Catholic Church which was incorporated in New York State in 1886 under the laws of the USA with Saint John the Baptist as their Patron.
The organization continued to grow inside the United States for many years and later spread to other parts of the world.
Today, KSJI is present in about 18 countries globally, including the United States, Canada, some West African countries like Ghana, Nigeria and Liberia, Trinidad, Tobago, England and Germany.
