Leave a Legacy for the Next Generation – Bishop Asiedu Urges

Must read

The Most Rev. John Alphonse Asiedu, SVD, the Bishop of Donkorkrom Apostolic Vicariate, has urged the newly inaugurated members of the Vicariate’s  Catechetical Commission to work hard in order to leave an outstanding legacy for the future generation.

The ceremony was conducted in the context of a Eucharistic Celebration, which was officiated by the Bishop.

The Inauguration Mass was preceded by an orientation for the members of the commission which was led by Very Rev. Fr. Samuel Christopher Vodzogbe, the Director of Religious Education and Catechetics at the National Catholic Secretariat in Accra.

In his homily, the prelate indicated that the life of an individual can completely change the character of a nation and the industry of its people, by dropping a single seed in a fertile soil.

“Our influence has effects on others. Our Christian life has its invisible effects for good or bad on the people who encounter us, and even for those who will come after us,” he stated

Bishop Asiedu continued that King David was highly exalted by the Israelites because of the impact he made on the nation.

One can never talk about Israel without mentioning his name, because he left a great legacy in the history book of Israel. John the Baptist did likewise by standing for the truth. He is remembered for his truthfulness as against evil at his time, he said.

According to the Bishop, Paul Miki and his Companions whose memorial was celebrated on the day also left a legacy by dying for their faith.

They are remembered for this heroic act. Our Master Jesus can’t be left out in this context. The fact that his way of life revolutionized the entire world till date.

In the same vein, the Chief Shepherd also entreated the Catechetical Commission to work very hard to leave an enviable legacy for posterity.

The fact that they are the maiden members of the commission calls for more efforts to lay a strong foundation for the future, something that would be a mark for them, the Bishop told them..

And he puts it beautifully in this way “We will even die one day, certainly, and disappear, but your thoughts and acts must survive in those who come after you”.

He indicated to them to see their membership of the commission as a privilege to serve mother church. Even though the creation of the commission is long overdue, but he stressed on the fact that God’s time is always the best.

The prelate also called on all Christians to do something for Christ today, which is going to influence Christians of the next generation positively.

He opined that the best effect of a true and fine Christian is felt after he or she has left the stage. The fact that we need to leave a trail of light behind for posterity.

The members of the commission are Very Rev. Fr. A.E. Ettuh, the Vicariate Director of Catechetics, Very Rev. Fr. Philip Desmond Gyapong, the Vicariate Liturgist, Rev. Fr. Michael Awuah Ansah, the Chaplain of the Vicariate Laity Council, Sr. Francisca Kumevor, SMMC, Vicariate PMS Coordinator, Mr. Paul Aboagye, the President of the Vicariate Catechists, Mr. Fabrice Kwaku Assinyo, Vicariate Laity Council Financial Secretary, and Miss Grace Asante, Vicariate PMS Secretary.
