A Catholic Priest working in the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra has admonished the members of the Christian Mothers’ Association (CMA) of the Archdiocese to use their newly opened office to build unity and love among their members.
“I pray that the Holy Spirit will fill your new office to bring unity and joy in working in the office,” said Rev. Fr. Hilary Agbenosi, the Rector of the St. Bakhita Catholic Church at Community 20, when he blessed and dedicated a new office space for the Accra CMA at the Holy Spirit Cathedral, Adabraka.
The August 3, 2023 office blessing was witnessed by leaders and members of the Association made of the Christian Mothers, Fathers, Daughters and Sons led by Mother Eunice Dumashie, the Accra Archdiocesan President supported by Mother Esther Abakah, 1st Vice President and Mother Theresa Marfo, 2nd Vice President.
Present to grace the occasion was the Executive Secretary of the Association, Mother Olivia Ansu Amponsah.
The office is to provide better services to the CMA members and create harmonious working environment for the staff and executives.
Fr. Agbenosi prayed that people who visit the newly commissioned office for information about the Association would grow to love God more and more, adding, “It is my prayerful hope that you will draw people nearer to God through this new office.”
He also prayed that the office would bring about peace, unity, togetherness and love, noting that women play vital roles in the home and the Church, hence they had the mandate to initiate oneness.
The new office would serve all administrative needs of the Association, a one stop shop for Deanery Presidents to get all Christian Mothers, Fathers, Daughters and Sons’ uniforms and accessories for their members.
In a presentation, Mother Augustina Arthur, a past Archdiocesan President, said the Association in Accra had grown by leaps and bounds, noting, “Let’s therefore not crawl as an Association because the group started in Accra.”
She praised the visionary leadership of the substantive President, Mother Dumashie for initiating the acquisition of the new office with the support of the executives, former leaders and the members in general.
On her part, Mother Dumashie said the blessing and opening of the new office had inspired members to strive more to share the blessings of God with whoever they come into contact with.
She was optimistic that the opening of the new office would uplift the image of the Association.
The Christian Mothers’ Association is a national women Non-Governmental Organisation established by some Nuns and highly spirited women in the Catholic Church in the early 1940s in Accra.
It has the vision to offer a holistic ministry to the women, thereby making them well-organised, self-reliant, self-sustaining, able to support the family up-keep, and more importantly to know their civic rights and responsibilities and being part of decision making at all levels.
CMA operates in all Dioceses in Ghana and has a current active membership of over 40,000 women, men, girls and boys. As a broad-based democratic organisation, CMA operates within the confines of its constitution, where they use the bottom-top approach in decision making.
The core activities include the provision of civic, health, formal and non-formal education and teaching of social and moral values, and also supporting the income generating activities of women.
For many years now, CMA has undertaken many development projects in the areas of poverty reduction, entrepreneurship, micro-finance and spearheading environmental and societal issues, and also raising leaders to take part in Ghana’s decentralisation process.
The CMA started its collaboration with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in 1966. Since then, a stable and lasting partnership was established. The current priority of this co-operation is a Civic Education Programme aimed at supporting women coming from all classes of society.
This programme helps women to influence policies by attaining leadership roles and policy making positions.
