Must read

The Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu SVD, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ho in Ghana’s Volta Region, has called for a clearer partnership arrangement between the Church and the government in promoting holistic Catholic education.

He advocated for the handover of Mission Schools to their original administrators, citing potential managerial issues and the erosion of the rights of Catholic Education Units.

Speaking at the 70th Anniversary of Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) Senior High School in Ho last Saturday, February 3, 2024, he underscored the importance of participation and involvement of the Church in the management and supervision of these schools, which ensures the delivery of quality education and discipline that religious entities are known for.

The theme for the anniversary was: “Reminiscing 70 years of Holistic Catholic Education: The Role of Stakeholders in Embracing Technology and Entrepreneurship for the Future”

Bishop Fianu who is the Vice-President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference and Bishop of Ho Diocese stressed that the partnership should ensure that the Church was involved and consulted on all policy changes and direction in the educational sector.

Calling for collective action, he urged like-minded individuals who believe in holistic Catholic Education to raise their voices, stressing that the current situation required more than just the voice of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, indicating the need for broader support for the cause.

He urged stakeholders to collaborate effectively to ensure the provision of quality and holistic Catholic education, which is vital for nurturing the country’s future leaders and workforce.

As part of activities to  climax the 70th Anniversary, a ground breaking ceremony was held for the construction of a 700-unit legacy dormitory bungalow.

The legacy project initiated by the Past OLA Girls Association (POGA) as part of the celebration. is to help alleviate the accommodation challenges facing the school
