Marshallans in Damongo Hold Regional Conference

Must read

The Knights and Ladies of Marshall in the Damongo Diocese of Ga have held their Regional Conference after becoming autonomous from the Wa and Tamale Regions in 2022.

Since the Damongo Diocese was created, the Marshallans from this diocese have divided, with some joining the Wa Region and others joining the Tamale Region.

The 2025 Conference was hosted in Martyrs of Uganda Parish, Bole, from August 1 to 3, 2025.

The Conference brought together big shots in the Knighthood such as representatives from the Supreme Council, Grant Knights, Most Respected Ladies, Worthy Brothers, Noble Ladies, Junior Cadets and Ladies as well as special guests including the Vicar General of the Damongo Diocese, Very Rev. Fr. Martin M. Mousayir, representative of the Headmaster of Bole Senior High School, Knight of St. John International and some parishioners.

The Conference started with an opening ceremony at the Bole Senior High School, paving the way for the conference’s purpose, as well as a few goodwill messages from the dignitaries present.

The Chairman of the Conference, Sir Knight Robert Ayamga, emphasised the significance of the Conference, stating that it was a time to thank God for leadership, form new leadership, pray for God’s blessings, and reflect on the successes and challenges of the order.

He also mentioned it’s a time to strengthen their union as councils and courts. The chairman emphasized the importance of interactions, making new friends, and keeping the old ones.

He highlighted that the gathering is a chance to affirm their Catholic beliefs and renew their vows, supporting the Church’s evangelizing mission.

He encouraged members to take full advantage of this opportunity to be actively involved in the program.

The Vicar General of the Diocese of Damongo, Very Rev. Fr. Martin Mousayir, brought the heat, extending greetings and blessings from the bishop. He highlighted the conference’s significance, coinciding with 60 years of Catholicism in the Bole traditional area.

He acknowledged the Marshallans’ role as witnesses to Christ’s gospel as protagonists of hope. The theme, “Marshallans as Pilgrims of Hope: Reflections in a Jubilee Year towards a Century of service to the Church,” aligns with Pope Francis’ intention for the jubilee year, building brotherhood for the future church.

He emphasised the need for responsibility, hope, and conviction to achieve greater things for God and humanity.

He also addressed the world’s darkness, highlighting issues like individualism, greed, corruption, and substance abuse. He, however, reminded everyone that the joy of the gospel brings light and hope.

“As Marshallans, you are called to live your Catholic faith authentically, being salt and light in the world,” he added.

The Vicar General quoted Leviticus 25:10, emphasizing the jubilee year’s meaning and the need for restoration and mending broken hearts.

He also highlighted the importance of environmental concern, specifically “galamsey”.

He outlined the Diocesan Jubilee programme, encouraging Marshallans to reflect on their contributions to the year of jubilee.

He asked them to consider what legacy they’re leaving for the next generation, whether they’re calling members to the faith and if they’re reaching out to those on the periphery or just staying comfortable in their zone.

He opined that the Conference shouldn’t just be a social gathering, but a chance for spiritual transformation. In his exhortation, he called on the congregation to keep the fire of faith burning by bringing hope to those in need, starting within their order and extending to the larger society.

Fr. Luke Lansa, reflecting on the day’s reading from the book of Ecclesiastes (1:2; 2:21 and Luke 12:13-21), highlights the futility of relying solely on human endeavours and material possessions. He warned the congregation against letting greed consume them, especially in their Christian duties.

He further cautioned the Knight Order against the misuse of power and encouraged them to recognize God’s handiwork in their leadership. He emphasized the importance of trusting in God and putting their faith in him.

The conference ended with the election of new leadership. The Regional Grand Knight, Mr. Vitus Beyouh, and his Deputy, Mr. Francis Salia, Mrs. Christiana Bobrnou, the Regional noble lady, and Mrs. Christiana Terebore, the deputy noble lady, were introduced during the Sunday Eucharistic celebration at Martyrs of Uganda parish.

The new Grand Knight thanked the order for the trust and encouraged members to be firm and honest Catholics, proud to defend their faith.

In a heartwarming gesture, the order donated Ghc 1,500.00 to the parish as a token of support. It’s great to see the Knights and Ladies of Marshall living out their faith and supporting their community.
