Two Teachers from Our Lady of Assumption (OLA) R/C Basic ‘1’ School have been awarded at the maiden MPs Teacher Awards 2025 and Appreciation in the Ga North Municipality for their excellent performance as educators.
The headteacher of Our Lady of Assumption (OLA) R/C Basic ‘1’ School, Madam Gloria Stephanie Neequaye, was adjudged the Best Headteacher in the Ga North Municipality in recognition of her exemplary leadership, integrity, and transformative impact on schools and the wider educational community.
At the same time, Mr. Elvis Ofori Gyamfi, a Ghanaian Language (Twi) teacher at OLA R/C Basic ‘1’ School, received the 2nd runner-up award in the JHS Category in recognition of his remarkable contributions, steadfast devotion to learner success, and impact on the JHS Pupils.
The awards were presented at a ceremony held at the Asofan Presbyterian Church on Friday, December 12, 2025, organised by the Directorate and the Office of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Trobu Constituency, Hon. Gloria Owusu.
Dubbed MPs Teacher Awards 2025 and Appreciation, the ceremony was on the theme: “Sustaining Our Progress: Enhancing Teacher Welfare and Celebrating Professional Excellence.”

The MP presented several awards to other deserving educators, including the prestigious Best Teacher of the Year award, among other recognitions. Many school teachers were also honoured in the Trobu constituency for their outstanding dedication and hard work.
The event highlighted the importance of recognizing and celebrating the hard work of teachers, who play a vital role in shaping the next generation of leaders.
In her maiden speech at the award ceremony, Hon. Gloria Owusu commended about 860 public teachers within the constituency, describing the initiative as part of her commitment to acknowledge and celebrate the hard work of teachers.
“This ceremony will not be a one-time event but will be an annual event to continually recognize exceptional contributions to education in the constituency,” she said.
The Citation presented to the best headteacher, Madam Neequaye, read: “The Ga North Municipal Education Directorate and the Office of the Member of Parliament-Trobu proudly honour you, Ms. Gloria Neequaye, for your exceptional leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment as Headteacher of Our Lady of Assumption R/C Basic School.”

“Your visionary guidance, strategic management, and inclusive approach have fostered a culture of excellence, discipline, and holistic development among staff and learners alike.”
The Citation stated: “Previously, you headed St. Joseph R/C JHS School 2, taking it from its inception to its current status as a preferred destination for learning for many students,” adding, “Through your exemplary leadership, you cultivated both learners and teachers, shaping the school into a model of academic excellence and nurturing an environment of high standards discipline, and personal growth.”
According to the Citation, under the stewardship of Madam Neecquaye, “the school has become a beacon of educational achievement in the Municipality.”
On his part, Mr. Elvis Ofori Gyamfi was awarded for his outstanding dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment as a Ghanaian Language (Twi) teacher at Our Lady and Assumption R/C Basic School ‘1’.

“Your learner-centred approach has enriched the learning experience, fostering both academic excellence and the cultural appreciation of the Twi language among your students,” the Citation stated.
The Citation indicated that through mentorship, innovative teaching strategies, and active engagement in school and community Initiatives, Mr. Gyamfi has “consistently inspired learners to achieve their full potential.”
It praised him for his integrity, dedication, and passion for education, which had served as a model of excellence for colleagues and the wider school community.
While Madam Neequaye had a Gas Cooker as a prize in addition to the citation, Mr. Gyamfi had a Freezer.
Madam Neequaye has an M. Edu. in Counselling Psychology from the University of Education, Winneba, between 2023 and 2024; M.BA in Health Services Management from 2014 to 2016 from the University of Ghana, Business School, Legon; B. A in Linguistics and Psychology from 2008 to 2012 from the University of Ghana, Legon; Diploma in Basic Education from 2007 to 2009 from the University of Cape Coast, and Teachers Certificate A’ from 2002 to 2005 from the Our Lady of Apostles College of Education, Cape Coast.
She has worked at the following institutions, St. Joseph R/C Basic School, Obom from 2005 to 2008 as a teacher; St. Sylvanus R/C Basic from 2008 to 2012 as a teacher; St. Joseph R/C J.H.S 1 at Fise from 2012 to 2018 as a teacher and Assistant Headteacher; St. Joseph R/C J.H.S 2 at Abessey, Pokuase from 2018 to 2025 as Headteacher and currently, the headteacher of OLA R/C Basic ‘1’.
On his part, Mr. Gyamfi has a Bachelor of Education (Arts) from the University of Cape Coast from September 2000 to June 2003.

From December 2012 to December 2020, he served as a Ghanaian language (TWI) teacher at Omanjor M/A Basic School “4” and from January 2021 to date, as a Ghanaian language (TWI) teacher at OLAS R/C BASIC SCHOOL ‘1’.
Upon winning the awards, Rev. Fr. Jacques Dodor, MCCJ, Assistant Priest of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, officially presented the awards to Madam Gloria Neequaye and Mr. Elvis Ofori Gyamfi at the closing Mass for OLAS 1 teachers and Pupils on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
With a loud applause from the teachers and pupils, Fr. Dodor congratulated the awardees and commended them for their hard work and commitment, and for bringing honour to the OLA school.

In related development, the Headteacher, Staff, Local Manager, School Management Committee (SMC), and the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) have organised a farewell for the immediate past headteacher of OLA R/C Basic 1 School, Madam Francisca Ocloo Amoah, who headed the school from 2021 to 2025.
She is currently the headteacher of St. Joseph R/C J.H.S 2 at Abessey, Pokuase, the school headed by Madam Gloria Stephanie Neequaye before she was transferred to OLA R/C Basic ‘1’.

She was presented with a citation that extolled her for her exemplary leadership, dedication, and commitment to excellence in education.
“We, the Local Manager, PTA/SMC, Staff, and learners of OLAS, express our greatest gratitude to you,” the Citation said, adding, “Through visionary guidance, you fostered an environment that promotes academic achievement, discipline, and holistic development among learners.”

The Citation praised Madam Amoah for her tireless efforts, which have inspired both staff and learners, enhanced community relations, and elevated the school to greater heights of success, stating that “Your integrity, innovation, and passion for education continue to make a lasting impact on the lives of many.”
The Citation was jointly presented to Madam Amoah on behalf of stakeholders by Mr. Damian Dieu Donne Avevor and Mr. Julius Samuel Asante, PTA Vice Chair and SMC Chairman of OLA Basic ‘1’ School.

Presentations from the SMC/PTA, OLA Basic ‘1’ School staff, and OLA R/C Basic ‘2’ School staff were made to Madam Ocloo Amoah in appreciation for her service.
She expressed appreciation to the Staff, Local Manager, PTA, SMC and other stakeholders for the honour done her as a former headteacher.
