New Catholic Bishop of Wa Urged to be the “Voice of the Voiceless”

Must read

The Most Rev. Peter Paul Ankgyier, the Bishop of Damongo diocese has urged the new Bishop for the Catholic Diocese of Wa, the Most Rev. Francis Bomansaan, M.Afr. to be the voice of the voiceless, to be for the poor and for justice.

In a homily at the Episcopal ordination Mass of Bishop Bomansaan on Friday, August 2, 2024 at the Wa Sports Stadium, he asked him to be a man of truth and honesty.

“Be for everybody and not allow a group of people to hijack you,” Bishop Ankgyier counselled.

He admonished the faithful to understand that the election of a successor for the late Cardinal Richard Baawobr was followed diligently according to the Church’s doctrines and tradition.

Saying that it is not the people who choose but God through the power of the Holy Spirit, he also urged the faithful especially the Priests of the Diocese to respect their Bishop and to co-operate with him.

Bishop Ankgyier encouraged the Wa Bishop to be firm in defending the faith whether it favours others or not.

He urged the Priests, Consecrated Men and Women and the lay faithful to work with the Bishop, co-operate with him, respect him and help him keep up the good work of his predecessors.

The ordination was attended by thousands of people including Muslim brothers and pastors of other churches.

Many Consecrated Men and Women were in attendance including Missionaries of Africa from all walks of life where the newly ordained Bishop belongs. It was an exciting moment as people of God expressed their joy in dancing and singing.

The Mass was presided over by His Eminence Peter Cardinal Appiah Turkson, Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences at the Vatican and concelebrated by members of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference including some Emeriti Prelates and scores of Priests.

In a goodwill message, Cardinal Turkson urged the people of Wa to always pray for their Bishop and emphasised on the need for prayer.

He prayed that God would grant the new Bishop wisdom to be able to shepherd his flock.
