The leadership of the New Horizon Special School at Cantonments in Accra has paid a courtesy call on Her Excellency Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, to express gratitude to her for visiting the school during its Annual Nativity Show and Christmas Pageant.

The delegation of Friday, January 30, 2026, visit was made up of Ms. Nilla Selormey, Ms. Vicky Wireko-Andoh, and Dr. George Francois

H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, during the meeting with the delegation, recounted her experience at the Annual Nativity Show and Christmas Pageant, describing it as “one of the best Christmases she ever spent.”

She recognized their work in supporting children and adults with special needs.

“Thanks for the visit, thanks for having us. As I said during the visit, I think it was one of the best Christmases I’ve ever spent, and I meant it. I meant it because when we say special education, we mean it. ” It’s not just the words, these are special people”, she said.

According to the Vice President, individuals with special needs require special education and public awareness to promote inclusivity.

She said, “Sometimes the parents and society don’t know what to do, and nobody is helping them to know what to do, and therefore I am a strong believer in public education. I think these are one of the things we need to do and do even better”.

H. E Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang commended the school’s leadership, teachers, caregivers, and staff for their dedication and sacrifice to educate and guide individuals with special needs and encouraged them to do better.

On her part, Ms. Nilla Selormey noted that the Vice President’s visit to the school meant a lot to them, including the learners, staff, and parents.

She added, “I’ve been to several New Horizon functions, especially at Christmas, but the cheer and spirit on that day I can only attribute to the visit that you paid. For us at New Horizon, the children are precious, and they mean a lot to us”.

Dr. George Francois, who is currently the interim Executive Director of the School, also shared the impact of the Vice President’s visit to the learners, noting that “they kept on talking about it in the classrooms.”

“We have a round table where we talk about current affairs, so they are aware that there is a new President and the female Vice President, and for that person to come to them and for them to understand that she came because of them, it’s been really huge, so I want to thank you on behalf of the students”, he added.
