New Regional Director of Co-operatives Outlines Vision for Bono Region

Mrs. Francisca Adorkor-Khein, the newly appointed Regional Director of Co-operatives for the Bono Region, has pledged to strengthen institutional coordination, promote digital transformation, and enhance governance within the region’s co-operative sector.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement held at the Conference Hall of the Sunyani Area Teachers Co-operative Credit Union Ltd, Mrs. Adorkor-Khein outlined four key strategic priorities under her leadership.

She noted, “As I step into this new role, I do so with a clear understanding of both the responsibilities and opportunities that lie ahead. I bring with me a background rooted in service, policy facilitation, and co-operative development.”

The stakeholders’ engagement, themed “Building Strong Co-operative Partnerships Under a New Leadership for Sustainable Development in the Bono Region,” brought together leaders from credit unions, BACCSODs, agricultural and industrial co-operatives, and other stakeholders.

Mrs.Francisca Adorkor-Khein emphasized that intensified training for co-operative executives and the adoption of digital tools for record-keeping and financial management are ways to facilitate smooth operations in the co-operative sector.

“We will intensify training for co-operative executives and management, ensuring that every co-operative society operates effectively, transparently and sustainably”, she said.

She also added that these strategies will “make co-operatives more effective and attractive to the youth.”

According to Mrs. Adorkor-Khein, the co-operative sector, is ”a people-centered approach to development”, highlighting it’s role in democratic participation, inclusiveness, and sustainability in the country.

The newly appointed Regional Director of Co-operatives in the Bono Region also stated that stricter supervision to ensure compliance with regulations and greater promotion of gender equality in leadership roles will be her topmost priorities.

Mrs. Francisca Adorkor-Khein expressed commitment to an open-door policy, encouraging collaboration among co-operative bodies to address local challenges collectively.

She said, “We all know none of the above vision and strategic priorities can be achieved by the Department alone. I am, therefore, calling on all co-operative stakeholders present here today to renew your commitment to unity and collaboration.”
