The Very Rev Fr. Dr. John Kobina Louis, Vicar General of Ghana’s Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, has reminded Deacons and Priests that they were ordained to render pastoral service to the Mother Church but not to focus their attention on financial matters.
In a homily during the diaconate ordination at the St. Dominic Catholic Church, Taifa, on Thursday, January 19, 2023, he asked the newly ordained deacons to serve the Church with love, humility, and embrace teamwork in the vineyard.
He also encouraged them to build a good reputation, to be filled with the Holy Spirit and with wisdom.
The newly ordained Deacons are Revs. Derrick Senyo Abbey – St. Dominic Catholic Church, Taifa; Raymond Lord Ampong – St. Michael Catholic Church, Michel Camp; Julius Kofi Dela Gemadzie – St. Dominic Catholic Church, Mallam; Maxwell Kwame Azaglo – St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Weija; Gabriel Edem Datsomor – St. Kizito Catholic Church, Nima; and Jonas Abaifar Dong-Purye – St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy, Legon.
The rest are Revs. David Osei Dwumfour – St. Martin Catholic Church, Teshie Camp; Martin Bamelinam – Archdiocese of Parakou (Benin); James J. Jatta – Diocese of Banjul (The Gambia); Pa George Mendy – Diocese of Banjul (The Gambia); Clement Quagraine – St. Stephen Catholic Church, Darkuman; Joseph Effah Siaw – St. Dominic Catholic Church, Taifa; Christian Yekoute – Diocese of Natitingou (Benin); Theophilus T. Ntiri-Andoh Jnr – Martyrs of Uganda Catholic Church, Mamprobi ; Bernard J. Asamoah Kwarteng – Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Dansoman Last Stop.
The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, the Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie CSSp, who presided over the ordination Mass expressed appreciation to the parents of the candidates and to the parish priest and assistant of St. Dominic Parish for accepting to host the diaconate ordination for the year 2023.
There was all joy amidst singing and dancing at St Dominic Catholic Church, Taifa, Accra as we awaited the procession to begin the diaconate ordination of eleven candidates from the Accra Archdiocese (Ghana), one from the Archdiocese of Parakou and one from diocese of Natitingou both in Benin, and two candidates from Diocese of Banjul (Gambia).
Mr. Benjamin Nador, the PPC Chairperson for St. Dominic Parish, Taifa-North who earlier welcomed the congregation, thanked God for hosting a diaconate ordination for the first time.
He appreciated the families of the deacons who had given up their sons to the church and for their self-offering unto the church.
In attendance were hundreds of Diocesan and Religious Priests, Religious Brothers and Sisters working in the Archdiocese; the chief of Taifa, Nana Adu Bediako I and his elders; seminarians, families, relatives and friends of the Deacons.
