North East Regional Minister Calls on Religious Bodies to Support Improve Quality Education in the Area

North East Regional Minister, Yidana Zakaria has called on religious bodies especially the catholic church to help improve the quality of education in the area as the region for the past years has been lacking behind in the sector.

According to him, the region lacks various social amenities and the government alone cannot provide it due to the region being one of the newest regions in the country, therefore, need collaborations between the church and government to improve the educational sector.

The inadequate educational infrastructure, Mr Yidana noted has caused many candidates at various schools to perform badly for the past two years.

The minister commented when Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocesan Development Organization in collaboration with Hungary Helps program commissioned an OPD facility for the Saint Patrick Health Centre in the Wulugu community in the North East Region.

Mr Yidana, however, appreciated the support honoured by the Catholic church and the Hungarian government and called for more collaborations for improved infrastructural development in the region.

The OPD facility forms part of the funding support of the HUF100,000, 000.00 (GH¢ 1.8 million) Hungary Helps program for the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocesan Development Organization (NABOCADO) under the Catholic Diocese of Navrongo- Bolgatanga of Ghana to help improve the Educational Sector, Health, Livelihood and Advocacy, and Good Governance, Justice and Peace Directorate Advocacy within a year.

Speaking to the media, the Catholic Bishop, Most Reverend Alfred Agyenta, stated the church is ever ready to help improve the educational needs as well as the health sector in its catchment area.

He said the church in the execution of its mandate will not in any way try to compete with the government as their role is to help bring the needed impact society needs.

Bishop Agyenta, assured the people and chiefs of the North East Region of the church that continues support to help improve education and health infrastructure development within the area with the collaboration of the Hungary Helps program.

He, therefore, encouraged workers of Saint Patrick Health Centre to make good use of the facility to achieve its intended purpose.
