The Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana Most Rev. Julien Kaboré has presented St. John Bosco as a powerful model of joyful holiness and authentic Christian discipleship, particularly for young people, on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at the St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Tema.
Reflecting on the life of the patron saint of the parish, the Nuncio recalled that Don Bosco lived at a time of deep poverty and social disturbance, when many young people were abandoned and without hope.
“He did not respond with theory; he responded with charity,” the Nuncio said, describing Don Bosco as a father and teacher to the most vulnerable, “inflamed with love for Christ the Good Shepherd.”

He noted that the saint understood that holiness was inseparable from joy. “For him, holiness was not sadness or rigidity; it was joy rooted in friendship with God,” he explained.
Addressing the youth directly, the Nuncio encouraged them not to fear holiness, telling them: “Do not be afraid of holiness and do not be afraid to be joyful and happy. Indeed, holiness is the surest path to authentic joy.”

He stressed that the saints are living proof that the Beatitudes can be lived in every age, adding that “the saints tell us, with their lives, that happiness is found in belonging to God.”
He concluded by urging the faithful to allow the Gospel of the Beatitudes to shape their lives, so they may become “witnesses of the happiness that does not disappoint, the happiness that comes from God, who never disappoints.”
