Though every comparison has flaws in the same way that every example limps, it is useful for the Church to draw some lessons from the just ended general elections.
The State is responsible for the civic welfare and the common good of its citizens, while the primary mandate of the Church is evangelical and spiritual.
In other words, we say it is the fundamental duty of the State Government to use its resources for the promotion of the integral well-being of the temporal human person.
For her part, “The Church has no desire to become involved in the government of the temporal order; eager to collaborate in projects initiated by private, public, state” (Ad Gentes, n. 12).
The recent general election results are a reminder to governments of the priority of the basic socio-economic provisions for all Ghanaians without any discrimination.
At the time of experiencing rather a massive exodus of the youth, the Church must discern the causes of the results of the recent polls.
Probably, we are deviating from our primary spiritual mandate of the care of souls and rather providing for the needs of the temporal order.
