[Opinion] COVID-19 Pandemic And Matters Arising: 4 Lessons from Being Quarantined

Must read

(1) Being quarantined, we show solidarity with the imprisoned: Many innocent people are caught up in the jaws and claws of congested prisons. Some were falsely accused; others had no one to plead their cause.

Because of miscarriage of justice, some languish in anguish behind bars. The quarantined world stands in solidarity with these isolated victims of a ‘failed’ judicature.

(2) The quarantined world solidarizes with the sick, aged, bedridden, and forgotten: Since time immemorial, many have been quarantined and forgotten by the world.

They are, terminally ill persons, persons living with skin diseases (like leprosy), and the aged. We are to remember these people, in these trying times, and lift them aloft on the wings of prayer and charity.

(3) The home-bound world sympathizes with the homeless: Where on earth will the homeless streetchild go, while everybody else is being advised to stay home in the wake of this novel virus?

In these difficult moments, as most of us are home-stuck, let us remember those who earn their living from the street, and sleep at night on abandoned bridges; those who have no place to call a home, or have rusted perforated iron sheets over their heads.

(4) The starving world identifies with the starving poor, destitute beggars and those who die of hunger and thirst: Many humans, struck by disaster, war, and famine, suffer lack of food and water.

Many disabled paupers parade our principal streets hoping against hope that, as for today, they won’t have to sleep on empty stomachs. The world is being taught, today, to understand their situation and come to their aid. God bless us, as we strive to do these.
