The Most Rev. John Kobina Louis, an Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese Accra, has called on all Catholics in the Archdiocese to actively participate in this year’s May Day Games and Business Fair scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 1, 2025.
Speaking at the launch of the 10th Anniversary edition on April 1, 2025, at the Holy Spirit Cathedral Parish Hall, Adabraka, stated “for now, there are about fourteen (14) Professional Guilds but we keep opening up to other professions to form a guild and be part of CPG”.
The May Day Games and Business Fair event is being organised by the Catholic Professional Guilds, the Accra Archdiocesan Laity and Youth Councils.
The launch was attended by members of the various professional guilds such as the Catholic Health Professionals Guild, Catholic Association of Media Practitioners, Catholic Business, Management and Finance Professional Guild, Sports Professional Guild, Security Professional Guild, among others.
Bishop Louis in his address said the Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, has keen interest not only in the May Day events but other activities of the CPG.

“Beyond the May Day event, every Catholic professional is encouraged to align with the guild of their profession so that the rich array of expertise and skills could be brought on board to more effectively and more efficiently develop the church across the Archdiocese of Accra”, he added.
Sir Richard Akpokavie, ESQ, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee of the 10th Anniversary Edition of the May Day Games and Business Fair in his remarks, stated “the CPG is not another society in the Catholic Church but an effort to create a network of all Catholic Professionals and partnerships that will benefit all parties”.
“It is to bring professionals together to share knowledge and ideas to help ourselves, the younger generation and by extension, society at large. It is also to harness our human capital so we can impact our Church to bring about the kind of transformation we all are clamoring for.”
One of the main activities held each year to bring all Catholic Workers in the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra together in a relaxed and fun atmosphere is the May Day Games and Business Fair organized by the Catholic Professional Guilds (CPG) of the Archdiocese under the patronage of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra and in partnership with Accra Archdiocesan Laity Council and Youth Council.
The 2025 May Day Games and Business Fair is on the theme; A Decade of Unity, Growth and Excellence.
Catholic-owned businesses would also have the opportunity to showcase their products and services.
It’s time to rally behind and help build our Church and country as Catholic Lay faithful. Development remains our collective responsibility and aspiration, and we need to continue to pay greater attention to working together as people of faith to improve our lot in our Church and country.
All Catholic professionals, businesses and societies are therefore encouraged to participate in the upcoming May Day Games and Business Fair, which promises to be a day filled with fun, networking and business growth.
