A five-day workshop on Communication Skills and Community Life organised for 19 Temporary Professed Sisters of the Sisters Mary Mother of the Church (SMMC) congregation has ended successfully at Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church Convent, Sokode.
The workshop held from December 27 to 30, 2022, was facilitated by Rev. Fr. Rex Andrew Vegbey, SVD, Director of Verbo Media Ghana.
Fr. Vegbey unveiled some of the problems that inappropriate ways of communicating pose in religious communities, saying they bothered on age differences, different cultural backgrounds, and individual differences, lack of appreciation, trust, and conflict of interest among others.
Dilating on topic “Priests and Religious in the Midst of Technology and Modern Media,” he enumerated the various types of technologies with focused on Media Technology, citing the use of smart phones and television, and their adverse effects on sound community living.
He cautioned the participants and charged them to always bear in mind the reason why they would have to use the social media and charged them to be the light to effect a change in their various communities.
Fr. Vegbey also advised the temporary professed Sisters to be careful about contents that could be harmful to them and their vocation.
The participants described the workshop as enriching, as it equipped them on how to use the social media to evangelise, and to satisfy informative, academic and other educative needs.
They expressed profound gratitude to the Congregation for organising such an insightful on-going formation programme for them.
The Superior General of the SMMC, Sr. Dr. Lucy Hometorwu, SMMC, who earlier welcomed the facilitator, encouraged the sisters to take the lessons seriously as it would promote the growth of the entire Congregation, and also educate them on the use of social media.
