Sr. Dr. Lucy Hometowu, SMMC, the newly elected President of the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious, Ghana (CMSR, GH), has reiterated the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference’s call to advocate for stronger Church-government partnerships to ensure ethical formation and access for the disadvantaged.
Speaking with Newswatchgh.com, Sr. Hometowu noted that the Catholic Church in Ghana plays a significant role in shaping and forming individuals that contribute to national development, noting that “quality education is the foundation for national development and social justice”.
She said, “The Catholic church is a major provider of education and social services in Ghana.”
Sr. Dr. Lucy Hometowu, Superior of the Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church ( SMMC) stressed education’s foundational role in development and justice, noting that the governance and management of Catholic schools are of great concern to the church.
She also cited the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference’s call for the “restoration of a model of education that combines academic excellence with ethical formation”.

“We will work to strengthen the role of religious-run schools by supporting to call of our bishops for a more comprehensive MoU defining clearly the rights and roles, and obligations of both parties”, Sr. Hometowu added.
Sr. Dr. Lucy Hometowu also stated that policy dialogues and advocacy for access to quality health will go on under her leadership, especially for the disadvantaged children and youth in society.
