The 2024/2025 batch of the Institute for Continuing Formation (ICF) centre at Elmina in the Catholic Archdiocese of Cape Coast, Ghana, has organised a day’s recollection toward advent season for the participants of the three-month temporary professed and nine-month formation of Formators Course.
On November 29, 2024, the participants took a day off to spend time with the Lord on the theme: Prepare the way for the Lord.
Rev. Bro Emmanuel Affum, SVD who doubles as the preacher of the recollection and the Director of the Centre stated that “Advent season is a period of recollection, stock taking, preparation and reflection for the great solemnity of Christmas (the birth of our Lord).”
“It is a season of sober recollection whereby we identify our weaknesses and try to make amends,” he added.
Rev. Fr. Jean Benjamin Yavo, OFM, a participant in the formation of Formators course and the celebrant of the solemn Mass at the end of the recollection, in a reflection on the readings of the day, encouraged the Religious to live well not because we are afraid of going to hell but because we are happy to meet the lord after our death.
In the Catholic Church, a day of recollection is a time set aside specifically for catholic faithful to seriously go into his\her relationship and spend time with God. It usually shorter than a retreat, usually a day or some hours.
