In response to the Holy Father Pope Francis’ declaration of the year 2025 as a jubilee year under the theme: “Pilgrims of Hope on the path of peace,” the Religious in Ghana on June 15, 2024 across the nation went for a candle light procession organised by the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious, Ghana.
The Consecrated Men and Women in the Sunyani Diocese, together with students from the Sacred Heart Senior High School, representatives from various women groups from St. Paul’s Catholic Church Nsoatre converged at the community Center of Nsoatre, Bono Region of Ghana and processed with the statue of our Lady to the St. Paul’s Catholic Church Nsoatre.
The Religious processed through the main street of Nsoatre town with some placards with inscriptions such as: “Care and protect the environment for future generations”, “destroying the environment is a sin”, “ecological virtue is infectious” and many more.
They ended with the praying of the Holy Rosary seeking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary against the destruction of the environment.
The aim for this exercise was to pray against illegal mining and destruction of the environment and to create an awareness on the need to protect the environment.
