Road Carnage not Spiritual-Accident Analysist

Must read

Mr. Andrews Antwi Boasiako, a Mooring (Anchorage) Attendant at the Marine Department of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has stated that road crashes are not caused by spirits but rather the bad behaviour of most road users.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Tema, Mr. Boasiako said “spirits are not causes of road crashes, but bad human behaviours displayed when using the road”.

Citing the Accra-Kumasi highway, the Accident Analysist explained that, “if one is driving on that stretch of road and overtakes wrongfully, you are inviting accidents voluntarily, so let’s stop blaming the devil”.

He added that road accidents happened due to the abuse of laws governing road safety, the total disregard of road signs by some road users mainly drivers.

Mr Boasiako noted: “I don’t believe that spirits could be the cause of road accidents despite the fact that I believe in the existence of evil spirits but does not relate it to road crashes”.

He said most accidents that happened at the end of the year in December were due to rush hours; “because it is a festive season and has a lot of activities, people visit family which tends to make the road busy.

“Most drivers-both private and commercial try to take advantage of the situation to make money, speeds unnecessarily, overtake or drive through unapproved lanes which most times tend to cause road accident,” he stressed.

Mr Boasiako therefore suggested that the Motor Transport and Traffic Department must upscale its operations on the road especially major highways and motorway to reduce the carnage during this festive season.
