A heavy rainstorm that hit the Oforikrom Municipality on Sunday, March 29, 2020, destroyed Appiadu Roman Catholic school in Appiadu Boadi Emena Kokoben electoral area.
The strong winds that accompanied the rain, which lasted for almost two hours ripped of the roofing sheets of the school building and the library, thereby exposing textbooks, exercise books, computers and accessories as well as other vital documents to the rain.
When visited the school, the three room at primary and 3 rooms at JHS as well as the school library had their roofing sheets ripped off but no human casualty was recorded.
Assistant Headmaster of the school who doubles as the Assemblyman for the area, Hon. Kenneth Owusu Bediako, told media that the school’s textbooks and other learning materials were destroyed in the storm.
He appealed to the government through the District Assembly and other benevolent organizations to come to the aid of the school to rehabilitate the school blocks.
According to him, the rehabilitation must be done to enable the pupils return to their respective classrooms after the COVID-19 break.
Hon. Bediako revealed that the school, which is not fenced, faced challenges of encroachment by some individuals.
