The Seventh-day Adventist Church of Ghana has donated an amount of GhC100,000 to the National COVID-19 Trust Fund.
Presenting the cheque at a ceremony on Monday, April 27, 2020, the President of the Southern Ghana Union Conference of the church, Pastor Dr. Thomas Techie Ocran praised the efforts of the government in the fight against the virus saying the donation is the first in a series of donations that will be done by the Church. He also added that the Church has been praying for the nation as well.
Receiving the cheque, the Chairperson of the Trust Fund, Justice Sophia Akufo thanked the church and said the Fund was impressed with the donation.
She, therefore, called on other Ghanaians to join the church in its 100 days of prayers.
Other persons present at the presentation were Pastor Dr. Lawrence Andrews Ewoo of Encounter with Truth, Dr. Williams Kpakpo Brown of ADRA Ghana, Nii Ayite Hammond of Hope TV, Pastor Kofi Nimako and Dr. Solace Asafo.
President Akufo-Addo donated his April, May, and June salaries as seed money for the Fund. Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia continued in the President’s steps and also donated three months’ salary to the Trust Fund.
All Ministers of State and other top appointees at the presidency voluntarily decided to donate 50 percent of their salary for the next three months to the COVID-19 Fund.
Parliament also contributed GH¢200,000 with the Speaker of the House, Prof. Aaron Mike Ocquaye donating half of his three months’ salary to the Fund.
