The Methodist Constitution provides that the Diocesan Synod, towards the end of its session, shall elect qualified persons to be Lay Chairmen-elect to take office after ratification by the Conference or the Expanded GPC.
Having fulfilled this provision of the Constitution, it is to this end, that the Methodist church Ghana has held an Induction service for the seven new lay Chairman.
Holding two Induction service concurrently, the first three in the southern zone : Bro. Dr Kenneth Dadzie Sagoe (Northern Accra Diocese), Bro. FelixKweku Addo(Foso Diocese) and Bro. Abraham Asare Sackitey(Somanya Diocese) were inducted at the Gbawe Methodist Society in Accra. Whilse the other four lay Chairmen in the Northern zone: Bro. Frank Turkson(Tarkwa Diocese), Bro. Emmanuel Fordjour(sefwi Bekwai Diocese), Bro. Thomas Oppong(Goaso diocese), Bro. Ernest Kagya(Wenchi Diocese) were inducted at the Dunwell Methodist Society-New Tafo, kumasi Diocese.
As part of the Induction process, they were presented with medallions of office, gowns and badges of office which signifies the outward mark of their election into the office of Diocesan Lay Chairmen of The Methodist Church Ghana.
Immediate Past Presiding Bishop-Most Rev Titus Awotwi Pratt delivering the sermon at the Gbawe Methodist Society, mentioned that this is a great and delicate responsibility; it is a privilege and an opportunity which must be used in fulfillment of the Lord’s will.
Meanwhile, the Most Rev Prof Emmanuel kweku Asante- Past Presiding Bishop delivering the sermon at Dunwell Methodist Society-Kumasi Diocese, urged them to seek wisdom from above, the spirit of humility and the fear of God in the discharge of the responsibility.
It was all joy when the spouses, family and friends of the new 7 lay Chairmen graced the occasion.
